CEREC by Sirona Dental Systems is a versatile chairside CAD/CAM system launched in 1986 and now in its fifth generation. The first two generations of CEREC, CEREC and CEREC 2, combined an intraoral scanner and a mill for producing the restorations in a single chairside cart. With the introduction of CEREC 3 in year 2000. The intraoral scanner and mill were split into two separate units which has continued with the fourth generation CEREC 3D and the latest system, the CEREC AC Bluecam.

CAD/CAM technology provides the basis for creating prosthetics for virtually all clinical indications and its applications in implantology are increasing. CEREC-fabricated single-tooth implant crowns, for example, offer clear advantages compared with conventional lab-produced superstructures. It is now possible - within approximately two hours and...
The CEREC advantage in the new landscape of dentistry and the myth of client loyalty
01 Jan 2009 | Practice Management
Are your clients loyal to you? I think most dentists would contend that they enjoy the loyalty of most of the people who sit in their chairs. After all, it’s a pretty simple thing to recognize, isn’t it? You see the same faces coming back year after year. You’ve watched families grow up in your practice and you know their histories. Ask any o...

Investing in yourself
31 Mar 2008 | Technology
I am still very much enjoying my dentistry despite the fact that I have been practising for 27 years. So what has kept me so motivated? There are so many new areas to explore as a general dentist that that alone keeps me interested. Some of these areas provide great clinical satisfaction and some provide very good financial returns. Seven years a...

Happy 20 years, CEREC
01 May 2006 | Special Report
I first saw a CEREC restoration during a presentation on tooth wear and longevity of dental restorations given by, of all things, an English dentist, in North Sydney in June 1999. Nick Jedynakiewicz wowed me with a slick talk on hard-core dentistry and finished with an elegant example of bonded CAD/CAM restorations at their best, in the replacement...

Why change now?
01 Apr 2004 | CEREC
Change is something we embark upon every day without even realising it. Some is conscious, some subconscious and some is just forced upon us whether we like it or not. My colleagues often ask this question of me, and it is one I too had asked. I enjoy the exploration of new challenges and having just taken up the saxophone, I felt it worthwhile investigating the claims of CEREC® converts? There were a number of factors to consider, but two questions most prominent in my mind were how does it stand up clinically ...
