The accuracy of modern pressure and vacuum-formed thermo machines has lead to some problems with fabricating thermoplastic appliances such as splints, nightguards, retainers, bleaching trays, mouthgaurds, formers for temporary crowns etc. For example, some foils become so tight around teeth with severe undercuts that removal is tedious and hard, many times leading to damaged models or stretched appliances! Other problems can be allowing for the space required for tooth movement, or for space for teeth to grow/erupt in a child’s mouthgurd. Block Out wax has been developed with a high melting temperature which enables it to stay true to shape while the thermoplastic cools and sets around it whilst being formed. When completed, the appliance may have some wax residue left on the fitting surface. This is no problem as it can be easily “chipped” off or wiped clean with a cotton bud dipped in boiling water, leaving the appliance clean and wax-free. And yes, it is reusable! Available in a 110gm pack.
