Victorian Dental Services, the Australian agents for Italian-made Anthos dental units, has won a prestigious contract to supply equipment to the Gabriel Gris School of Dentistry in Papua New Guinea.
The sale includes 15 Anthos A3 dental units, complete with chair and light, four Anthos intraoral x-ray units and everything required to get the equipment up and running.
"We were very excited to win the tender," said Victorian Dental Services director Phil Pagliuso. "The school hasn't been in operation for a number of years and they have recently received money from an aid organization to refit the school and commence training once again.
"They sent us some photos of the place and it was in poor condition and they had old dental units from several different manufacturers. I think what gave us the edge was that I spotted an Anthos dental unit and told them to take a look at it. It was about 15 years old but the upholstery was still immaculate and it was still working fine. That's hard to argue with."
Mr Pagliuso had considerable input into the design of the new facility and will travel to PNG to personally supervise the installation in early 2003.
"The installation is an ideal opportunity to ensure that the people who will be servicing the units fully understand their operation and the maintenance regime. With any dental units, keeping the units in top condition is the most important aspect.
"We will also be instructing the professor of the school and the training staff on the proper operation of the equipment and fully explain all the features."
Mr Pagliuso believes the solid construction of the Anthos units will stand-up well to the intensive usage experienced in a dental school.
"They are a high quality, solidly constructed unit and we expect that the school will be very happy with the reliability of these high tech units. At Victorian Dental Services, we service all the equipment we sell so we have considerable experience in the Anthos units to draw upon and are very confident the units will be trouble free for many years to come."
