Earlier this year, Heraeus Kulzer Australia organised a Spot the Margin Venus Challenge promotion that showed the teeth of two brothers and asked dentists to pick which tooth had had a single Venus composite restoration.
"The Spot the Margin promotion proved very popular," said Mr Ken McInnes, managing director of Heraeus Kulzer Australia. "One of the aspects dentists found attractive was that it called on them to use their clinical skills to win, rather than just having to submit an entry.
"We received hundreds of forms back and at the end of the day, it was harder than it looked. Only 4% of entries correctly indicated that Patient A had a class IV upper right 1 Venus restoration."
Mr McInnes said it was a testament to the aesthetic properties of the unique micro hyrbrid composite that so few entries even indicated that the central was the restored tooth.
"The results show that it's never been easier to create restorations with perfect shade, beauty and brilliance. Venus Colour Adaptive Matrix and the two layer shade guide ensure that excellent aesthetics are no longer a matter of chance or trial and error, but can be produced easily, quickly and reliably."
Dentists needed to mark the approximate location of the restoration on the entry blank provided, which would have looked something like the blacked out area pictured.
Seven entries were judged as best showing the position of the restoration. Congratulations go to Dr Robert Pollock, Dr Sharon Telford, Dr Moira Hamilton, Dr Claudia Yung, Dr John-Paul Langbroek, Dr Lea Ovaska and Dr Les Thean, who each receive an Heraeus Kulzer Venus Master Kit valued at $1350.00 and an heraeus Kulzer iBond Assortment Kit valued at $147.00.
