Supporting dental professionals during COVID-19 and beyond, dental community leaders recently came together to host the SofaCON Dental Summit, a live, interactive virtual dental congress offering over 20 hours of continuing professional development (CPD).
In direct response to the needs of the dental community, the Summit was developed in partnership with key industry players - EMS Dental Oceania and Dentevents.TV and with the support of Henry Schein Australia and Ivoclar Vivadent New Zealand - to discuss how to navigate the uncharted waters of dentistry on the downside of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the lead up to the Summit, research highlighting that many dental professionals were concerned about the future of dental practice was at the forefront of planning the event with a view to delivering the latest information regarding best practice in the post COVID-19 world.
Over 22 experts, educators and clinicians collaborated to deliver over 12,000 participant sessions across the two days of the event.
Clinical webinars fostered learning amongst dental professionals and brought together the top experts in the field of finance, insurance, marketing and all dental specialties.
Andreas Schulz, General Manager for EMS Dental Oceania, said, "The global COVID-19 pandemic is something none of us has ever experienced or could have predicted; a unique and uncertain time for most healthcare industries, including dentistry.
"We, at EMS Dental Oceania, wanted to show support to the dental community and provide them with a learning opportunity with multiple relevant topics that would help them navigate this period. The result was the SofaCON 2020 Virtual Summit - a 2-day multi-webinar free event - that was by far one of the largest Australian dental events that we have seen to date."
"SofaCON was an absolutely amazing event exactly in line with the times," said Joseph Allbeury, publisher of Dentevents.TV. "It was an exciting project to be a part of and came together in a matter of days rather than weeks or months. We had such an amazing array of talented, compelling speakers who all participated willingly and offered amazing perspectives on every aspect of how COVID-19 has affected the profession - from financial hardship and mental duress to clinical realities and of course, infection control practicalities. All the bases were covered.
"From a technical perspective, it was a real trial by fire for Dentevents.TV. From the moment bookings opened a mere 4 days before the event began, we were absolutely inundated as over 12,000 registrations were processed.
"In an isolated world, SofaCON brought together the dental profession once again as a community with a common goal of how best to navigate our way back to normality."
The majority of the sessions from the SofaCON 2020 Virtual Summit are now available on-demand at www.dentevents.tv.
