Shining 3D Aoralscan 3 by Osseogroup

By Dr Rachel Hall

First, I must begin by saying how impressed I was, not only by this scanner, its functionality, speed and ease of use, its accuracy and simplicity, but also by the incredible package and its affordability. There are not many scanners out there where the trolley, the tips, the PC and all ongoing software updates are included in the price.

Its affordability, practicality and so many additional features make this the scanner of choice for crowns and bridges, implants, veneers, splints, whitening trays and orthodontics (Invisalign excepted), but beyond that is the incredible before-care training and onsite installation, support team and aftercare that Osseogroup offer and provide.

Shining 3D may not be a familiar name in the dental scanner market. Yet, the company was founded in 2004 and developed its own 3D digitising and manufacturing technologies, owning over 300 patents and 100 copyrights. It has almost 20 years of experience in the high-precision 3D digital products industry and this shows in its design and software development.

The Shining 3D Aoralscan was first to market in 2019 and since then has had two iterations, with the Aoralscan 3 being their latest model with fast scan speeds, high accuracy and intelligent AI. It also comes in for under $40,000 (from $15,990), which makes it a very attractive package.

I have found the scanner to be fast, as the scanning process is efficient, and the AI, in my opinion, is excellent. This is a very competitive scanner because of its price and its scan speed - a full arch can be easily scanned in under 60 seconds – I think on speed and performance alone it gives the more expensive and well-known scanners a credible run for their money.

Being a petite dentist with extra-small size hands, the Aoralscan 3 is lightweight and exceedingly ergonomic, fitting comfortably in my hand without it being awkward or onerous to manoeuvre, and the narrow scanning tip makes it a pleasure to use.

With only one button and automatic start-stop detection, there is no fiddling around or searching for controls which makes the scanner reliable and so simple in its functionality. The build quality is far superior to what the cost would hint at and does not look, feel or behave like a cheap or low-cost product.

With great functionality like a warm-up fan for the tip that prevents fogging and condensation, quick, easy and reliable scans are a breeze with a very smooth and easy workflow within the software.

I have been very impressed with the scanner and with the team at Osseogroup who have provided fantastic aftercare and support, which I know can often be lacking once the rep seals your order and the exchange of your hard-earned cash has been completed.

Any support, advice and minor issues have been dealt with quickly and without fuss and hence it is my pleasure to both recommend the Aoralscan and Ossegroup when thinking about and making your scanner purchase.

At IDS 2023, Shining 3D launched the wireless version of the scanner, the Aoralscan 3 Wireless.
