SDI opens subsidiary in Japan

Melbourne-based dental consumables manufacturer, SDI Ltd, has announced the formation of a subsidiary in Japan. The new organisation, known as SDI KK, will now be the sole distributor of the company's products in the Japanese market. Japan has over 90,000 dentists and the Japanese dental market ranks second after the USA in capacity.

Located in Central Tokyo, SDI KK now has fully operational offices, a testing laboratory and a warehouse and expects to commence supply by the end of August.

CEO Jeffery Cheetham said the establishment of SDI KK in Japan follows the company's proven strategy of successfully expanding internationally. "The replacement of exclusive distributors by SDI with its own subsidiary company allows us to market and sell directly to our customers. In this case, we are eliminating two levels of distribution which will lead to a greater market penetration with a stronger offering of competitive pricing and focussed customer service."

SDI already have offices in Germany, USA, Ireland and Brazil.

The company also announced that sales for the 11 months to 31 May are up 20% on the corresponding period last year.
