Dentists can purchase dental equipment with greater confidence following the release by the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) of the updated ADIA Standard Equipment Supply Agreement. Published by ADIA, the peak representative body for suppliers of quality dental equipment, this agreement clearly sets out the relationship between the dentists and their supplier.
"ADIA recognises the symbiotic relationship that exists between suppliers of quality dental product, dentists and allied oral healthcare professionals. The revised agreement is all about helping dentists purchase the latest technology from reputable suppliers," said Troy Williams, ADIA Chief Executive Officer.
According to Mr Williams, the agreement is designed to provide both clarity and certainty when purchasing dental equipment, something particularly important when it comes to big-ticket items such as dental chairs. The agreement allows suppliers and their clients to clearly denote the type of equipment, delivery dates, installation dates and unique features such as the colour.
"We want clients to have confidence in dealing with ADIA member businesses. This agreement is a fair and objective standard documents that represent the latest and best thinking in contractual relations between dentists and their suppliers," Mr Williams said.
The short, simple model agreement is available in print format and electronically, using a standardised format with suppliers and clients engaging in minimal negotiation and drafting. Both suppliers and clients are protected by new contractual provisions reflecting Australian Consumer Law (ACL) requirements contained within the Competition and Consumer Act (Cth) 2010. These provide clear guidance on business-to-consumer transactions in addition to clarifying warranties and associated guarantees. Other amendments ensure the agreement is consistent with the Personal Properties Securities Act (Cth) 2009.
"The ADIA Standard Equipment Supply Agreement is the product of a cooperative approach that allows suppliers, dentists and allied oral healthcare professionals to gain the benefits of standardisation and efficiency," Mr Williams concluded.
