QuickSmile launches with national roadshow

DMTi has taken its new QuickSmile teeth whitening system on a national roadshow, delivering evening presentations in Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

"Quicksmile is the next generation of light-assisted whitening systems and is different to everything else on the market," said DMTi managing director Peter Mackley. "The seminars around the country were designed to highlight the advantages of the system over other products and show the point of difference.

"The doctors who came along were very familiar with the problems associated to date with the first generation of products on the market. Because QuickSmile was designed specifically to address current concerns, particularly in relation to sensitivity, it was universally well received."

QuickSmile uses Luxeon LED technology to deliver a unique red light. The LED's are reliable, long lasting and obtain 100% intensity on activation. It produces no heat and no infrared or UV radiation.

According to Mr Mackley, the wavelength of the light is designed to work specifically with the QuickSmile Blu gel which is formulated using hydrogen peroxide at 35% concentration. To ensure the gel attains its optimal potency, it is mixed and activated immediately prior to application. The LED light source then causes a photochemical reaction. The entire treatment takes less than an hour and includes three applications of the gel and three 8-minute light activations.

The QuickSmile's Total Smile Illuminator head whitens both arches at the same time and requires no facial masks or other blockout material as the light source has no effect on the soft tissue. A thin barrier of liquid dam covering the gingival margin still needs to be applied to segregate the hydrogen peroxide gel from the gum tissue.

Mr Mackley shared his experiences drawn from supplying light-assisted whitening systems for several years and was upfront that QuickSmile was not a panacea for all deep intrinsic shades.

"QuickSmile will achieve excellent results that meet patient expectations if the protocols are applied for patient selection, treatment and post-operative care. Optimum results differ from patient to patient and it is important to ensure there is a shared expectation as to the results.

"We have protocols that practices can use to ensure the best possible result and part of these include a pre-operative assessment including checking for existing restorations, assessment of existing shade and enamel wear, checking for stress fractures as well as tetracycline, fluorosis and standards of oral hygiene," he said.

QuickSmile is available on a $1 residual, 36-month lease with the $492 repayment including enough of the QuickSmile Blu gel to complete four patients. Additional kits that each contain enough material for two patients are $175. An example given during the seminar showed that performing whitening on ten patients a month at a conservative fee per treatment of $700 would generate an annual revenue after expenses of just shy of $70,000.
