The first Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) course for dental professionals conducted by dentist and NLP trainer Yvonne Sum in March has left those who attended crying out for more.
"There is an enormous potential to expand this type of education within the dental profession and I feel Yvonne can make an enormous impact," said Wendy Parish, a Melbourne-based dental hygienist. "It was a wonderful, motivating presentation. Dr Sum has a unique ability to create visual pictures; a fantastic ability to listen and re-iterate in other people's words and build on input of the group, resulting in a higher level of learning."
Attendees participated seeking information on personal development and to get an understanding of NLP and how it can help you interact with people; implement change with regard to communications; understand more about personalities and communication; better understand people and communicate with them; change patterns of learning; ideas to help dispel core beliefs and change core values; guidance or self-analysis to permit progression or balance in life; and overall expanded self knowledge.
"There was a very good mix of academic and application through the use of fun activities," said Dr Rodney George of Bundaberg. "Yvonne knows her content very well and is able to give examples in many ways to reach the group."
Greg Davidson, a Sydney-based Practice Management Consultant added, "Yvonne's very enthusiastic. Role playing and other exercises were helpful in reinforcing concepts. She also knew her material beyond depths touched on in the course.
"Dr Sum's energetic, engaging and inviting style made the group feel very comfortable and understood. She inspires us by weaving inspirational stories, myths and metaphors that not only entertain us. These metaphors touch us deeply and create meaning for all of us."
"The material was succinct but leaves me with much scope for exploring further development," said Dr Livia Naharnowicz from Melbourne. "She is very warm and genuine and a great facilitator, allowing individuality to play a part in our success, not just a formula to apply. The programme exceeded my expectations."
"The formulation of the information was great," said Dr Caroline Nguyen of Kingsgrove. "Colours and paper made it feel more personalized and informal. Yvonne is a great presenter, managed to build rapport with everyone and open a situation for everyone to have rapport with each other."
