Next generation of prosthetists graduate from RMIT

The first group of dental prosthetists to graduate in Victoria since 1996 have just been awarded their Advanced Diplomas. Craig McCracken, organiser of the course at Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT), said all the graduates had done exceptionally well and are more than ready to immediately start work as dental prosthetists.

This is primarily due to the competency-based training framework ofthe course. The graduates have attended to over 400 patients between them during the length of the course, which is a day and a half a week and over two years.

The course is also offered as a block release delivery for 14 weeks full time staggered over a two-year period as well as outside supervised work. Mr McCracken says it is interesting to note that students have come from all over Australia, including Darwin, Hobart and Adelaide to attend the course and of note, 25% of the graduates are female.

Currently there are 25 students enrolled in the course.
