NewTom cone beam goes mobile

The benefits of cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems as a diagnostic tools are many. The cost of these systems is significant however, making outright purchase not financially viable for every practice.

Larger practices and some enterprising radiographers have taken the opportunity to purchase and offer scanning services to other practitioners, making the technology more cost-effective and accessible.

And now, for the ultimate in convenience, there is Mobile CBCT too!

AFP Imaging, the manufacturers of the NewTom VG cone beam imaging system, have developed a mobile solution that incorporates a "shortened" version of the unit in a van that brings CBCT to your door.

"It's a great idea," said Mike Harman, managing director of Inline Systems, the Australian agents for the NewTom VG. "There are already several vans running around Europe and the US and it's the ultimate in convenience. Unfortunately there aren't any in Australia at present although we do have some interest."

The Mobile CBCT vans offer a self- contained imaging suite and can visit a dental practice to image single or multiple patients, or the service can visit a patient's home at a convenient time.

The NewTom VG is an upright scanning system with no fixed seating, so it is available to all patients. The NewTom Safe Beam Technology adjusts the radiation dose according to the patient's size and age so that exposure is minimised.

CBCT images are comparable to medical CT at a fraction of the radiation exposure. They provide valuable diagnostic information that is not available in conventional 2-dimensional x-rays.

Imagery is produced in DICOM format suitable for use in the production of surgical guides such as NobelGuide and Simplant and for use in third party imaging software such as Dolphin. Free viewing software is also available with every scan.
