New Zealand meets Bensheim: Intensive Training for Technicians of the Otago University Project

Three technicians of the New Zealand service provider Dental & Medical Equipment Ltd. completed an intensive training program at Dentsply Sirona in Bensheim.

Dental & Medical Equipment and Dentsply Sirona cooperate in terms of a project with Otago University. The Otago University's dental faculty strengthens its leading international role in dentist's education by having its new building equipped with Dentsply Sirona's technologies.

Important establishment of new contacts for an ambitious project

In the five-day training, the main focus was on the installation and maintenance of all Dentsply Sirona's products – in particular the Sinius treatment center. The experienced technicians already knew Dentsply Sirona's products beforehand. "Thanks to the training in Bensheim, we increased our knowledge and know-how in the latest technologies. In addition, we met our Dentsply Sirona contacts in person. Moreover, the interaction with the technical trainers at Dentsply Sirona's Dental Academy facilitated valuable personal contacts. Especially in such ambitious projects like the one at Otago University, these direct links are vital", explains Simon Van Aalst, Senior Technician, Dental & Medical Equipment.

Integrated training schedule with partners

Moreover, the experts from New Zealand got to know all of Dentsply Sirona's technology partners as well as their products which are relevant for the project. Examples are, among others, equipment by the British manufacturer Design Specific for treating bariatric patients and patients in wheelchairs. At Otago University, this equipment will be installed in a treatment room dedicated to special needs. "Apart from the personal interaction, it is important for us to offer an integrated training schedule compromising all of the products which are implemented at Otago University", emphasizes Peter Rössling, Director Special Clinic Solutions APAC, Dentsply Sirona. A second training session, including additional five New Zealand technicians, will take place in April 2018.

Installation of 218 Sinius treatment centers in just ten weeks

In February 2018, the first three floors of Otago dental faculty's new building were already finished as a shell construction. Following the expected completion of all construction works by September 1st, 2018, Dentsply Sirona and Dental & Medial Equipment will install the entire dental equipment by November 8th, 2018. This includes:

• 218 Sinius treatment centers in eight different configurations,
• 33 intra oral imaging systems (Heliodent Plus) as well as Orthophos 2D and 3D extra oral imaging systems and
• 2,000 instruments.

Further large-scale projects in New Zealand

Otago University operates a Community Service Clinic in Auckland for the education of dentistry students being in their fourth and fifth year at university. In 2020, Dentsply Sirona is planning to equip this facility with 32 Sinius treatment centers and 15 simulation units.
