The Gerber Institute for Advanced Dental Learning is a unique training facility offering both conference facilities and clinical training. It opened in June this year as part of the new Gerber Dental Group Practice at Burleigh Heads on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Designed by Levitch Design Associates, it took shape from the practice's original need for in-house training facilities.
"Once people became aware of what we were building, they expressed an interest in using the training room for their own conferences," said Dr Andrew Gerber. "We were able to link the upstairs room to the surgeries below to allow dentists to have a close-up view of clinical procedures using microscopes and video facilities.
"One of the biggest frustrations for dentists and trainers alike is the small work space of the mouth. It is impossible for more than one or two people to see what's going on. The technology we have used in the design of the centre has eliminated this problem."
Comfortably seating up to 28 people in either boardroom or classroom seating, the Gerber Institute for Advanced Dental Learning is one of only a few of training centres in Australia offering an opportunity to watch live clinical procedures via audiovisual links. Located on the mezzanine level of the practice and with six surgeries on site, internet access and state-of-the-art audio visual equipment, the Gerber Institute for Advanced Dental Learning is available for hire for both dental conferences and clinical training courses. Full catering is available on site and beachfront accommodation at Burleigh heads can be arranged.
