King's College London Dental Institute's new MSc in Endodontics is now open for applications from general dental practitioners who would like to enhance their existing clinical abilities and acquire advanced skills whilst remaining at their original work place. The first cohort of students will begin the three-year programme in January 2013.
The programme will be delivered via a multi-media online environment with materials and resources produced specifically for flexible learning and will feature short face-to-face courses in London, enabling students to experience a complete technical and academic package. Delivery is based on the success of the flexible learning programmes now in their third decade of delivery from the Dental Institute.
Students will receive expert teaching and training by highly qualified academic staff and will also have opportunity to receive support and guidance from dedicated specialist clinicians and access to the world-class facilities available to them at King's.
Professor Brian Millar, Director of Distance Learning at the Dental Institute, said: "I am delighted to see another flexible learning programme joining our family of programmes delivered in this easy to access format which enables dentists around the world to access high quality postgraduate training from experts while remaining in their practice and living at home. We are often asked about an endodontic programme and so here it is".
The new MSc covers the scientific basis of endodontology, diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with complex endodontic problems, clinical treatment of patients with endodontic and other restorative problems and learning research methodology.
Programme Leader Professor Francesco Mannocci added: "There is a strong demand among general practitioners for continuing education in endodontics. This new MSc combines theory and practice of endodontology in a flexible yet rigorous training that spans from the biologic basis to the most recent technical advancements in endodontics."
