New implant company rewards the smart choice

Melbourne-based MIS Implants officially launched onto the Australian market at the Australasian Osseointegration Society Conference in Canberra late last year with a smart, eyecatching promotion. "Make a smart choice and get a smart car" was the banner draped across the Mercedes Benz Smart Car on their stand which had the desired attention-grabbing effect.

"MIS implants are not new but they are new to the Australian market," said Jacob Gilmore, Managing Director of MIS Australia, "so we wanted to create a launch promotion whereby anyone passing our stand couldn't help but stop and ask about it. Essentially, if clinicians were prepared to make a commitment to our product range, then we would reward them with a substantial and very 'smart' bonus."

According to Mr Gilmore, the promotion, which ended in January, proved extremely successful and also offered Plasma TVs and laptop computers depending on the level of commitment made.

"This promotion was one of many to come and is based on MIS's philosophy of rewarding customers for their loyalty. We are an innovative company, with the highest quality products, and it's as simple as that. Our promotional strategies reflect our dedication to our customers."

MIS offers a full range of implants, prosthetics and related products. Whilst new to the Australian market, the company has enjoyed success over the past decade in Europe, Asia and the USA.

"There are a lot of players in the implant market in Australia already but we believe there is a gap in the market for a company that offers high quality components and service at an affordable price. We have seen this trend around the world and in Europe for instance, MIS has become the leading company in the implant market in several countries. Similarly, MIS is facilitating greater implant incidence in Australia by making our implants accessible to more patients whilst enabling doctors to enhance their profit margins."

Mr Gilmore said that innovation was an integral part of the company's business strategy and constant research and development by leading practitioners in the implant field ensures that MIS is continuously creating new devices that can be used to streamline the implant process, as well as developing new implants based on the latest research.

"Whilst MIS implants are currently based on a hexagonal system, an octagonal system will soon be available. One of the more recent implants, the 'Seven' implant, has been designed to ensure maximal osseointegration via its high Ra surface and its stability rings allow for superior primary stability," he said.

"All MIS products also come with an easy-to-use protocol that simplifies each step in the implantation and prosthetic processes. MIS has also created a range of tools unique to the company which assist in the implantation process. These include a paralleling device (for cases of multiple implants), a drill stopper kit, bone compression kit (which can replace osteotomes and avoid patient trauma) and a bone harvesting kit."

The company will also launch a range of advanced courses as part of the MIS Academy. This initiative follows successful courses conducted in late 2005 by Dr Gabi Chaushu, an Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon and head of department at a Tel-Aviv Hospital. The MIS lecture series on advanced bone grafting took place at major cities throughout Australia. Dr Chaushu spoke of his great deal of experience using MIS implants on an array of patients, including victims of terror. He found that even in these extreme circumstances, MIS implants achieve optimal osseointegration.

"MIS implants are of the highest quality and we invite all doctors to try them personally," Mr Gilmore said. "MIS implants are supported by a multitude of scientific studies and a lifetime warranty is offered which even covers instances of biological rejection. We are excited to be able to bring this range to Australia and assist doctors to make a 'smart' choice."
