New CMD software merges DVT and JMT data as well as optical impressions and thereby facilitates the treatment of craniomandibular dysfunctions

New Products CEREC

SICAT, the specialist for 3D planning and therapeutic solutions, is now presenting the market release of SICAT Function, a solution which precisely merges diagnostic patient information received from a DVT (GALILEOS) / CT, a Jaw Motion Tracker (SICAT JMT+) and optical impressions (CEREC, Sirona). With convincing results: This is the first time that real patient-individual movement of the lower jar can be visualized – true to the anatomy – within the 3D volume.

The demand is tremendous: more than 6 million people suffer from craniomandibular dysfunctions. Up to now, the diagnosis of such craniomandibular dysfunctions has been complex and time-consuming. Moreover, conventional approaches require a high degree of experience. SICAT Function offers the possibility to meet these high requirements for the first time through the presentation of more precise and patient-individual information.

The SICAT workflow is specifically established as follows: The SICAT JMT+ records all degrees of freedom and movements of the lower jaw in a highly precise manner. With the aid of radiopaque reference markers, SICAT Function merges the jaw movement data recorded on the occlusion plane, with the DVT or CT scan. Optical impressions are merged with the DVT scan with the aid of the SICAT CAD/CAM Wizard.

What follows is the three-dimensional presentation of the jaw in motion. The spatial relationship between condyle and fossa during movement is presentable for the first time. Depending on the preference of the practitioner, the movement traces can be visualized at any specific point of the condyle and mandible. The dynamic occlusion can be reproduced by means of optical impressions for any jaw position. With the presence of all relevant patient data, diagnosis, planning and consultation with the patient are therefore possible in one chairside session. The subsequent treatment plan can be implemented with a Michigan treatment appliance made by SICAT. The appliance is fabricated according to the 3D data, JMT+ data and optical data, and for the first time considers the patient-individual jaw movement.

SICAT Function: Reproducible results, reliable treatment planning and an efficient workflow make this new software a revolutionary development for the treatment of CMD cases.
