Kodak Iluma CBCT now available

William Green Pty Ltd has launched the ILUMA Ultra Cone Beam CT Scanner onto the Australian market to compliment it's existing range of digital imaging products from the Kodak stable. The ILUMA is manufactured in the US by Imtec Imaging and Kodak Dental Systems has exclusive worldwide marketing rights for the unit.

"There has been a groundswell of interest in cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems in the Australian market and around the world," said Ryan Green, Digital Imaging product manager at William Green. "Dentists are discovering that the level of diagnostic detail a 3D scan can provide increases the level of predictability in their clinical care and that has a vast range of follow-on benefits.

"We believe the Iluma is an excellent choice for dentists considering purchasing a 3D imaging system and it is backed by Kodak, one of the most trusted names in dental imaging. The Iluma is a fully featured state-of-the-art 3D imaging system that is both cost-competitive with other products in the category and can readily produce image files for use in guided implant surgery systems, such as NobelGuide and Simplant, as well as other applications."

Cone beam imaging systems produce a 3-dimensional scan of the patient's skull at a considerably reduced radiation dose compared to traditional medical fan beam CT scans. The scans deliver a level of diagnostic capability rarely seen in dentistry to date and are ideal for implant planning, orthodontics, endodontics, oral surgery and much more.

Undistorted, anatomically correct views of the jaws, teeth and facial bones along with cross-sectional (bucco-lingual), axial, coronal, sagittal, cephalometric and panoramic views are easily generated. Three-dimensional images enable a level of anatomical accuracy and patient care not possible with 2D technologies.

The Iluma 3D Vision Software includes tool for patient motion and metal artifact reduction tools and was designed for easeof- use but also provides a comprehensive set of 3D visualization tools needed by dental professionals to optimize diagnosis and treatment decisions and to streamline workflow. A sample of included 3D tools are automatic generation of standard panoramic, cephalometric and intraoral images; volume rendering with image presets; measurement tools for 3D and 2D images; surface rendering of skin and soft tissue; implant simulation tools; exportation of 3D volumes (stereolithography or STL) that enable the rapid fabrication of implant guides, custom-bent wires, orthodontic aligners and other patientcustomized treatment products; and ability to export images to third-party software tools, such as implant planning tools, that utilize DICOM 3 file format.

The Iluma completes a 360° rotation scan in 20-40 seconds, with a 19 x 24cm cylindrical volume of reconstruction. A single scan contains full cranial data that can be reconstructed at various levels of resolution as many times as needed, without rescanning the patient. It uses a 127 micron Amorphus Silicon Panel image detector and the patient is seated with rear head stabilization and chin support. Following the scan, image reconstruction time is 2.5 minutes or greater dependent on volume and resolution to be constructed.

Increased treatment acceptance by patients is a further benefit of cone beam scanners as they make understanding and visualization of proposed treatments much easier.

"This is an exciting time not only for William Green but for the 3D imaging market in general," said Simon Olah, General Manager of William Green. "The Iluma Scanner has the highest image resolution in the industry. It delivers 14-bit grayscale images and a 0.09mm voxel size. The image resolution is unmatched in the dental industry and we hope to replicate its success in the US market."
