Ivoclar Digital: A clear strategy for digital laboratory technology

Efficient digital processes in the dental laboratory require finely tuned procedures as a foundation. Ivoclar Digital has an advanced, dedicated product portfolio which supports the work of dental technicians throughout the digital process chain. Digital manufacturing is easy to integrate into laboratory routines and increases the flexibility of the lab.

Sophisticated techniques and high-quality materials join forces with prosthetic dentistry know-how, dental laboratory excellence and digital expertise – this is the essence of Ivoclar Digital, the new category brand from Ivoclar Vivadent. It offers dental technicians straightforward, coordinated processes. Ivoclar Digital consolidates expertise in the fields of materials engineering and manufacturing technology under one roof. The three coordinated building blocks of Ivoclar Digital form the basis for versatile digital solutions developed for dental laboratories.

1. Scanners / CAD

The scanner assortment available through Ivoclar Digital comprises laboratory scanners from 3Shape (D1000 and D2000 and the brand new 3Shape E series. A suitable unit is available for all laboratory requirements. 3Shape "Dental Designer" software is also available and now includes several exclusive additional modules (Add-on Solutions): for example, the "Digital Press Design Wax Tree" add-on for the press technique and the "Digital Denture" add-on for the digital manufacture of dentures.

2. Materials

The Ivoclar Digital materials assortment is divided into materials for fixed and removable prosthetics and process-supporting materials. The following materials are available for fixed prosthetics: lithium disilicate (IPS e.max CAD), zirconia (IPS e.max ZirCAD), leucite glass-ceramic (IPS Empress CAD), highly cross-linked PMMA (Telio CAD) and cobalt chromium and titanium alloys (Colado CAD).

Tooth-coloured SR Vivodent CAD discs enhance the range of materials for removable denture prosthetics. These are designed for milling monolithic dental arches, which are subsequently bonded to a denture base made of IvoBase CAD. The process-supporting materials include machinable polymer or wax discs (ProArt CAD). In addition, Ivoclar Digital comprises the new Viteo titanium base, a unique titanium base for implant- supported single-tooth restorations.

3. Equipment / CAM

A total of four new milling machines (PrograMill series) were introduced at IDS 2017. The units fulfil the needs of laboratories of every size. They provide dental technicians with easy access to industrial manufacturing quality and efficient processes. The powerful PrograMill PM7 has a spindle capacity of 970 watts for excellent results. The automatic 8-way material changer and 20-position tool changer ensure independent manufacturing. The PrograMill PM3 and PM5 also offer high performance 5-axis milling. The integrated 8-way material changer (PrograMill PM5) allows several production orders involving different materials to be smoothly accomplished.

Finally, the PrograMill One is the world's smallest 5-axis block milling machine. It is designed for small dental laboratories and laboratories in dental practices.

Conclusion

Ivoclar Digital encompasses modern dental processes and the matching software applications and interfaces for the convenience of dental laboratories. The three major components of this category brand (Scanners/CAD, Materials, Equipment/CAM) support dental technicians throughout the entire manufacturing chain. Simple, succinct and clear - the products and processes of Ivoclar Digital unravel the complexity of digitalisation.
