The Australasian College of Legal Medicine provides training in expert witness for doctors, dentists and other health professionals and the next occasion when this occurs will be a weekend course starting on Saturday & Sunday 24th 7 25th November 2012.
The venue for the weekend course is the Royal College of Surgeons, 250-290 Spring Street, East Melbourne.
Over that weekend, you will be instructed on how to be an expert witness from various legal officers and what they expect from you when you attend court. The Saturday morning is based on the didactic from a Barrister, Judge and an Expert Witness on what you should state in your report and your behaviour while in the court.
The second part of Saturday and all of Sunday you will be lead and cross examined on your de-identified report, that you will have submitted four weeks before the start of the course. This gives the legal team time to read through and make valid points of your report that they think worth questioning in the Moot. Reports will be marked prior to the start of the course and returned to you on that day.
