Over 200 dentists from 16 different countries attended the International CEREC Masters Symposium at the Sheraton on the Park in Sydney, prior to FDI.
This was a once in a lifetime opportunity for Australasian dentists to learn advanced CEREC techniques from eight of the world's most experienced CEREC experts. Each of the speakers presented new and practical ways to expand the scope of CEREC applications, reduce treatment time and improve the quality of CEREC restorations. A significant focus of this symposium was the transfer of new CEREC 3D knowledge.
The meeting was chaired by Dr Nicolas Jedynakiewicz, an acclaimed speaker on dental materials and technology in 40 countries, from the University of Liverpool.
Keynote speakers at the Symposium were Professor Werner Mörmann, from Zurich University, co-inventor of the CEREC CAD/CAM system (see article on page 44); and Associate Professor Dennis Fasbinder, Director of Advanced Education in General Dentistry, University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Six other international and local speakers presented a range of fascinating topics.
These covered the clinical prerequisites, adhesive cementation, predictable contact points, higher skill levels in posterior/anterior crown design and characterisation, Veneers and Anterior Partial Crowns and on the aesthetics of the inconspicuous crown, ensuring that crowns look like natural teeth rather than crowns!
Dr Jedynakiewicz said, "It was a great honour to be part of it. Overall, the meeting was excellent. There is nothing to CEREC beyond that which was presented in the Symposium, and a very good one that fulfilled the definition in every way. Each speaker was free to express his own view of a special aspect of CAD/CAM technology. There was absolutely the right number of speakers with the right timing for each presentation. As was there so much opportunity for the audience to meet with the speakers off-stage during the breaks, lunches and at the Gala Dinner. Truly a symposium that defines the word. Good planning and well done!"
The CEREC Masters Symposium was co organised by the Halas and Sirona, with the assistance of the ISCD, as a CEREC continuing education initiative.
