On 7 April 2005, the Legislative Council referred an inquiry into dental services in New South Wales to the Standing Committee on Social Issues.
"The terms of reference of the inquiry ask us to look at both public and private provision of dental services in New South Wales and whether it is meeting community needs," said Chair Jan Burnswoods MLC. "The type of issues that will be examined include quality of care, funding and availability of dental services, dental workforce issues and preventive treatments and initiatives. The adequacy of public dental services, including waiting times and access, particularly in rural and regional areas, will also be a focus of the inquiry." The committee is to report by March 2006.
