IDEM Singapore 2010 keeps Asia’s dental community on the cutting edge

The International Dental Exhibition and Meeting (IDEM) Singapore 2010 staged in late April drew 6,057 visitors from across the Asia Pacific region, cementing the event's position as the premier dental showcase in the region. IDEM Singapore 2010 brought together participants from 54 countries in a four-day event that delivered the cutting edge in clinical techniques and technology.

"Once again, IDEM Singapore has successfully brought the latest innovations and emerging technologies from around the globe to Asia's dental community," said Mr Michael Dreyer, Vice President, Asia Pacific, Koelnmesse, the organisers of the event. "The response from participants and exhibitors has been encouraging and we are proud to have facilitated the fruitful interactions and networking that will lay the foundation for future collaborations."

IDEM Singapore 2010 continued to be the platform for businesses in the dental trade to connect and expand their network in the region.

Mr Sthen Boisen, General Manager South Asia, KaVo Dental Asia-Pacific Pte Ltd said, "IDEM Singapore 2010 has proven to be a more successful outing for us as compared to the 2008 event. By the second day, we had already achieved the same results as we did for the entire show in 2008. We are seeing positive response for the range of products we showcased. We have already secured at least three major projects and we're expecting to bring these to fruition in the next three to six months!"

With 352 exhibitors from 31 countries across the globe, IDEM Singapore 2010 provided visitors with a truly global showcase of the trends shaping the world of dentistry. Three key technologies were most prevalent on the exhibition floor, signalling the growing opportunities in these segments.

Several 3D cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) systems were on display by established names in digital imaging such as KaVo, Sirona and Vatech.

Vatech, the largest exhibitor at IDEM Singapore 2010, presented the widest array of digital imaging tools and equipment including its latest three-in-one CBCT system that revolutionizes digital radiographic 3D imaging.

Ultrasonic surgery is seeing increased popularity as the technology of choice for cranio-maxillo-facial surgery, delivering greater precision and safety to patients. Piezoelectric surgical techniques are one of a range of cutting-edge procedures presented extensively at the IDEM Singapore 2010 exhibition and throughout the scientific program. Mechtron were a major sponsor of the event while the Acteon Group introduced its second generation dental surgery and implantology unit. Silfradent also launched its brand new Surgybone ultrasonic surgery system.

With the advent of new materials and techniques for bone augmentation and soft tissue management, dental implants are now indicated for a broad spectrum of treatment. As a sign of implant dentistry's growing importance in Asia's dental market, the big names in implant dentistry, such as Nobel Biocare, Osstem and Straumann, were all present at IDEM Singapore 2010.

Straumann introduced its new product, a unique new implant material that promises enhanced flexibility in treatment option, better predictability of outcome and higher efficiency for dentists.

Over 1,044 participants attended the IDEM Singapore 2010 Scientific Conference, which featured 18 international thought leaders in their respective fields of expertise.

Apart from new techniques and technologies, IDEM Singapore 2010 also brought to the fore new protocols in patient treatment. Dr Ricardo Mitrani presented a session discussing the importance of an interdisciplinary approach to patient treatment in contemporary dentistry. Commenting on the IDEM Singapore 2010 Scientific Conference, Dr Mitrani said, "There is certainly an outstanding lineup of speakers and dentistry educators. The agenda was well thought out and covers a wide range of topics. I saw great interest among the participants in the finer details in aesthetically driven treatment options."

Dr Roland Glauser, who spoke about choosing the optimal treatment strategy for implant placement and restoration, said, "I was pleased to be part of the Scientific Conference alongside a number of high caliber of speakers, covering many relevant areas of interest in dentistry. I was also impressed by the diverse range of dental professionals that the conference was able to attract."

The inaugural Let's Talk Business seminar at IDEM Singapore 2010 also registered keen participation from the industry.

IDEM Singapore 2012 has already received encouraging response, with many exhibitors and visitors keen on returning. Several top names in the industry have also confirmed their participation in the event. Focusing on "Advances and Controversies", speakers already confirmed for the IDEM Singapore 2012 Scientific Conference include Dr Dennis Tarnow from the Columbia School of Medicine, New York as well as Dr Pascal Magne and Michel Magne from the University of Southern California, Los Angeles.

"IDEM Singapore continues to remain relevant to dental practitioners in Singapore and the region by offering a platform for continuing professional development and product knowledge updates," said Dr Lewis Lee, President, Singapore Dental Association.
