King's College London Dental Institute is launching the UK's first postgraduate master's programme in advanced minimum intervention dentistry.
Minimum intervention (MI) dentistry is a patient-centred approach to maintaining life-long oral health based on early detection and risk assessment of disease as well as minimally invasive treatment strategies, all designed to empower patients to take responsibility for their own oral / dental health.
The Dental Institute is leading the way in this approach and provides this unique and comprehensive distance learning programme with the view to maximise the clinical and financial future of the practitioner's dental practice.
Professor Dianne Rekow, Dean of the Dental Institute says: "We're proud to offer the first MSc in this exciting field, which has been developed in response to the dental profession's push towards a minimum intervention, preventive approach to caring for patient's oral health".
Professor Avijit Banerjee, Programme Director for the new MSc in Advanced Minimum Intervention Dentistry at the Dental Institute says: "This innovative three-year master's programme is the first true holistic, practice-based master's degree to market. Practitioners will develop and enhance their knowledge and clinical skills in the practice of contemporary, profitable and entrepreneurial minimum interventional dentistry".
Dr Len D'Cruz, vocational trainer for the London Deanery and member of the BDA General Dental Practitioners Committee, is one of the programme teachers. He says: "MI dentistry is about simple solutions for complex problems, which will make the lives of the patients, the practitioner and their teams so much easier. Ethical MI dentistry provides holistic care profitably for the dental practice, but is focused on each patient's individual needs. The new NHS contract will have prevention and MI dentistry at its heart: this programme will prepare the practitioner for the future".
The programme will be delivered by a dedicated team with an international reputation in minimum intervention dentistry; it will cover the latest concepts in clinical detection, diagnosis of dental disease, risk assessment, care planning and minimum intervention, preventive management strategies (including remineralisation technologies), coupled with practice management of the practitioner's team, facilities and patient communication and marketing, thus ensuring long term business profitability as well as ethical patient care.
The mode of delivery is blended learning, which combines online with face-to-face components, enabling practitioners to remain in clinical practice while training.
Online application is now open, please find more information and how to apply on the King's online prospectus.
