exocad prominent at ADX16 exhibition in Sydney

Company Profile

Digital workflows for dental laboratories and clinics featured prominently at ADX16 Sydney this year with the gamut of hardware – like scanners, mills and 3D printers – and CAD and CAM software on display. exocad software, developed in Germany and well-known as the front end for Amann Girrbach, KaVo, Zfx, Zirkonzahn and other digital manufacturing systems, exhibited directly for the first time.

"We exhibited at ADX as a first step in both gaining more exposure in the Australian market and also to find additional partners and dealers," said John Higgins, Director of International Sales for exocad and based in Hong Kong. "We have established dealers here already and also sell through our OEM partners, so exhibiting helps us understand their customers better which results in greater synergies with our products and the market long term."

exocad offers a complete software solution for digital dentistry with exoscan scanning software, exocad design software and exocam manufacturing software. exoplan implant planning software and exocad ortho software are in development.

The independent software provider offers integration for a wide range of 3rd party devices and in just 5 years, exocad has become the leading dental CAD/CAM software provider for the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) market, making rebranded software for well-known CAD and CAM hardware suppliers.

The software is under active development by a specialised development team in Germany in close collaboration with its partners. The pragmatic and flexible business model has seen the company's products in use in over 120 countries.

"We had a very positive response from ADX," Mr Higgins said. "Our brand is well known in the market generally, so exhibiting helps us to create a specific connection between customers and potential customers and exocad direct. Technicians who were familiar with competitive products were able to see our software in action and understand our points of difference."

exocad has an already established following in Australia from users who have bought the system as part of a scanning package or seen it at shows internationally.

"exocad encapsulates the elegant simplicity of what dental CAD software should be... but it also gives you impressive depth when you pry back the layers of this progressive software package," said Terry Whitty, eLABORATE's technical editor, CAD/CAM guru and exocad user and dealer.

"The power of exocad is that it gives the user the choice to easily switch between a step-by-step 'wizard' interface to an amazing 'expert' mode where the real power of the product is unleashed. For example, just like the ability to jump to any track on an iPod/iphone, you have  the ability to jump to any part of the design process and edit the job. The ability to randomly access ANY stage of the design process is revolutionary and allows the user access to all core functions and the ability to edit until satisfied with the result, ready for transfer to computer aided manufacture. exocad now sports an amazing new modern interface and has hundreds of improvements in its imminent new release in 3rd quarter 2016.

"I use a lot of CAD software and speaking from experience, whether you are just starting out or a digital manufacturing veteran, exocad will deliver on what you need."

exocad was founded in 2010 as a spin-off of the world-renowned Fraunhofer Organization, by the team that created the Fraunhofer IGD Dental CAD Platform. For many years, Fraunhofer's Institute for Computer Graphics (IGD) has been providing state of the art innovations in the area of CAD and visualization. exocad GmbH has an exclusive license for Fraunhofer's dental CAD technology, developed by the founders of exocad while being researchers at Fraunhofer IGD. Headquartered in Darmstadt, the company has offices in the USA, UK, Hong Kong and Luxembourg together with dealers worldwide. In Australia, exocad is available from Fabdent and Intelligent Dental Solutions as well as from indirect Partners who distribute the Scanners which are integrated with exocad.

"The move to digital dentistry is really in its infancy and we understand that the road is long," Mr Higgins said. "We are patient and as the market continues to evolve, exocad will be there to offer integrated solutions to allow laboratories and clinics to take full advantage of what is essentially a revolution in the way treatment will be delivered. The great part about our products is their continual evolution in response to the market and the needs of our users which effectively makes any investment in our products future-proof."
