In response to a recent AC Nielsen survey that revealed more than a third of all Australians don't understand what orthodontics is, the Australian Society of Orthodontists Inc (ASO) has developed an Orthodontic Information Card.
The card is written in a conversational style with a simplified explanation of orthodontics and what an orthodontist does together with the symbiotic relationship the specialist and general practitioner enjoy. It explains that "an orthodontist works with your dentist to look after your teeth in the same way as a cardiologist works with your doctor to treat a heart condition."
The card goes on to recommend all 7-year olds visit an orthodontist and also highlights the popularity of adult orthodontics.
Quantities of the DL-sized cards are being distributed courtesy of Oral-B to dental practices around Australia together with a display stand for use in waiting rooms and reception areas.
"We think that dental patients will appreciate having this valuable information offered in this way and we're hoping general dentists will be able to put these on display in their practice," said Dr Ted Crawford, Federal President of the ASO.
"We love the graphics - particularly the natural features of the smiling female face. It has a fresh and appealing look - specially designed to catch the eye! Oral B has kindly come on board with this project to help distribute supplies of these cards to all dental practices around Australia."
