Discus Dental has launched the second generation of its highly successful Zoom! chairside light-assisted whitening system. Aptly named Zoom2, the system addresses many of the short-comings that have been discovered with first generation systems as well as producing a solution with a reduced procedure time.
"Zoom2 is faster, more comfortable and more effective, delivering results 33% faster in just 45 minutes," said Barbara Byrne, Zoom! Business Development Manager at Henry Schein Regional. "It will deliver an average 8 shade improve-ment with just three 15 minute sessions with 73% less sensitivity than the original system. It is a true next generation system."
Zoom2 utilises the same metal halide light source as the original but includes a new advanced optical alignment system for faster patient set-up and optimal results. The completely redesigned unit includes highly maneuverable joints, a wide arc arm and locking casters for enhanced maneuverability, easy adjustment and conven-ient storage. An intuitive LCD control panel provides precise tracking of procedure and cycle times.
The proprietary Zoom2 whitening formula incorporates Amorphous Calcium Phosphate technology and new light-activated chemistry designed for superior results, lower sensitivity and less fadeback.
"The proprietary Zoom2 gel works due to the 'photo-fenton' reaction of hydrogen peroxide and iron Fe3," Ms Byrne said. "The peroxide reacts with the iron to produce hydroxyl radicals - 'stain terminators'. A light reaction cyclically renews the iron so the gel can continue to produce hydroxyl radicals - more effectively whitening teeth."
The Zoom2 lamp is complemented by an updated procedure kit that includes everything that is needed for a Zoom! procedure including the whitening gel; advanced optical alignment system; a new Zoom2 starter swab to enhance gel performance; Liquidam dental dam and everything you need for isolation; Satin Finish post-treatment solution (5% Potassium Nitrate and .22% Sodium Fluoride) to further reduce sensitivity; before/after photo brochure; post whitening care instructions; and optional maintenance kit with tray case and tray fabrication materials for long term patient use.
