A new surgery design service that capitalises on 30 years of experience of leading European dental unit manufacturer, Anthos, is now available to Australian dentists considering refurbishing or relocating their premises.
"It was during a visit to the Anthos factory in Italy that we discovered they offer a complimentary design service for dental practices," explains Richard Knezevic, managing director of RK Dental Equipment, the NSW distributor for Anthos equipment. "They offer the service all over Europe and welcomed its expansion to Australia.
"Essentially, we visit a dentist's premises and measure it up in detail. Then we discuss exactly what is required in terms of the number of surgeries, reception seating, consultation rooms, staff amenities, offices, lab, storage, restrooms, etc and we document all this and send it electronically to Anthos in Italy.
"Within a week, they provide us with a suggested design for the dentist to review. We then workshop the designs until the client is fully satisfied."
According to Mr Knezevic, clients who have taken advantage of the service so far have been overwhelmed with the results of the Italian-designed practices received back.
"Anthos has had over 30 years experience designing practices all over the world," Mr Knezevic said. "That experience in knowing what will work and what won't, not just in theory but in real world practice, is invaluable.
"Whether it's a single chair in a shopping centre where space is a premium to a large multi-chair practice where the sky's the limit, they have continually returned stylish, modern and innovative designs that maximise functionality.
"The only problem we had when we first started using the service was to let Anthos know that dentists in Australia don't take an afternoon siesta and thus don't need a bedroom included in the design!"
Mr Knezevic, who has an engineering and electronics background, has many years experience installing, servicing and maintaining all brands of dental equipment as well as designing and project managing complete dental practice refurbishments.
"Anthos supplies us with CAD drawings of the practice and this allows us to fine tune every detail. If we are employed as project managers, we coordinate the builders and ensure the telephone system, computer cabling and all the plumbing and electricals for the equipment are in the right place.
"We provide a very personalised service and that is reflected in everything we do, from our showroom, to ensuring the small details are taken care of, like the x-ray unit switch being in the right place. We work with a select group of dentists and want to give them the very best service and support with the latest products."
