Dentists rush online health claims

Dentists have rushed HICAPS - the new eftpos-style network for on-the-spot processing of patients' private health insurance claims.

Head of HICAPS, Brendan Cogley, said dentists accounted for about 35% of all providers who offer the new online claims processing service.

"Dentists have certainly been quick to recognise the benefits of this new technology for their customers," Mr Cogley said. "HICAPS makes it easier for dentists to manage their practice, which I believe is a major factor in its high acceptance by health service providers.

"Online processing of claims means reduced paperwork and less time spent on administration. Cashflow is also improved because claims are paid direct to the dentist on the same day as treatment."
