In June this year 3Shape, a global leader in 3D scanners and dental CAD/CAM software solutions, released its Dental System™ 2016 - the latest version of its industry leading software for dental laboratories.
Dental System 2016 introduces new and improved applications and workflows as well as completely rewritten software for impression scanning to eliminate steps in the dental lab workflow. The new Dental System 2016 also saves time for lab technicians by allowing faster and more intuitive design for simple to advanced cases as well as increased software reliability.
Here's what's new in Dental System 2016...
Impression scanning (Figure 1)
Some of the new features include groundbreaking impression scanning software enabling scanning of each side of a triple tray in less than 30 seconds and a single trays in 75 seconds. All 3Shape dental lab scanners can now scan analog impressions and go directly to CAD design without the need to produce gypsum models.
3Shape Impression Scanning is based on Adaptive Impression Scanning which detects incomplete surfaces and automatically applies an optimal combination of the cameras and 3-axis motion, ensuring accurate capture of preparation, proximal and contact areas. Impression scanning is enabled with all scanners but is particularly suited for multi-line scanners such as the D1000 and D2000.
In addition, impression scanning workflows are the perfect way to capture details for post and core cases.
Improved scanning speed and software
The new scanning software has also improved. This allows scanning to commence directly after creating the order without any waiting time. There have also been scanning speed improvements on some models.
New robust anatomy design engine (Figure 2)
The new software architecture has been optimised for robustness and handling of large cases as well as for using visibility sliders. The stability becomes extremely beneficial when designing large implant retained restorations.
New algorithms have made it easier and faster to select smiles from more than 70 Smile Libraries. In addition, new signature Smile Libraries from Lee Culp (USA) and Jan Hajto (Germany) have been added.
New and improved design tools
- Smile design: Overlay dental golden proportions and teeth woutlines to guide digital design.
- New and faster margin line detection.
- Design with multi-unit angled abutments: The software enables you to select, position and rotate multi-unit abutments based on the specific implant library used.
- Matching secondary structures: Design the bar and then easily and precisely create its matching secondary according to the bars form.
- New design of Removable Partial Dentures: Starting with virtual crowns to guide the framework design for optimal stability and aesthetics is now possible.
In addition, there are many improvements on previously released versions have been made.
Dental Axess will be hosting the annual Digital Evolution conference for its user group in Melbourne on 21st October where a highlight of the program will be the launch and training platform for 3Shape Dental System 2016. Delegates will have the opportunity to learn about the new features and applications of the software.
