Brisbane dentist, Dr David Messer, has won the top prize in the Test your knowledge and win with Panadeine competition 2003. The prize, with a total value of $3,000, enabled Dr Messer to attend the FDI Annual World Dental Congress recently held in Sydney.
The competition was open to all dentists, therapists, hygienists and technicians. To be eligible to win, participants were asked to apply their knowledge of analgesic use in dental pain by providing the correct answers to a series of questions based on a case study.
"Dr Messer's experience as a dental surgeon for 39 years showed in his understanding of the use of analgesics in dental pain," said Mr Peter Dydusiak, Panadeine Brand Manager. "Not only did his answers demonstrate a depth of knowledge on analgesia in a dental setting, but he was also able to communicate clearly - a skill I am sure his patients appreciate. I am delighted to extend my congratulations to Dr Messer."
The competition is part of the medical education activities conducted by the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) dental detailing team.
"The aim of the team is to provide dentists with adequate educational materials to fully understand the differences between analgesics in order that they can recommend the most appropriate pain reliever for their patients," Mr Dydusiak said.
Dr Messer was delighted with his win: "I was very pleased to learn I won the competition and to have the chance to attend the world congress in Sydney in September."
Other prize winners included Dr Kee Toh Wong from ACT and Dr Catherine Alford from WA who received $150 and $100 in medical text book gift vouchers, respectively.
GSK - one of the world's leading research-based pharmaceutical and healthcare companies - is committed to improving the quality of human life by enabling people to do more, feel better and live longer. Panadeine contains paracetamol and codeine phosphate.
