Dentsply Australia has announced the NEXT big thing in Endodontics, ProTaper NEXT by Dentsply Maillefer. This new root canal treatment system is now available for pre-order ahead of its Australasian launch in May.

Based on the success of the market leading endodontic solution, ProTaper Universal, ProTaper NEXT has been developed to deliver added clinical benefits.

When ProTaper entered the market in 2001, the concept of variable tapers was introduced to the world of endodontics for the first time. Then, in 2006, the dedicated, matching obturation system was launched, offering clinicians a complete solution.

Now, the NEXT generation of the gold standard in root canal treatment has been developed. Built on the same philosophies as ProTaper Universal, including the variable tapers for an optimized crown down technique, a single file sequence for all clinical cases and as a system with matching obturation solutions. The additional benefits of the ProTaper NEXT file system arise from new features including the M-Wire NiTi material and the patented, off-centered rectangular cross-section which gives the file a unique "swaggering" movement in the canal which in turn ensures the tip stays centered in the canal.

Benefits of ProTaper NEXT include:

• Increased patient safety and clinician confidence - the risk of file separation is reduced and at the same time, respect of the original root canal anatomy is improved;
• Increased efficiency - fewer files are typically required (Compared with ProTaper Universal). Additionally, only one torque and speed setting is needed for all files, resulting in a shorter clinical sequence; and
• Potential coverage of more clinical cases due to: increased flexibility of the files and the unique swaggering movement.
