ADIA Tells Re-elected Turnbull Government To Cut Red Tape

Dental product manufacturers and suppliers across the nation are looking to the re-elected Turnbull Government to continue progress in cutting the red-tape faced by business. That's the message from the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA), the peak business organisation representing manufacturers and suppliers of dental products.

"The focus of the government throughout the last parliamentary term on cutting red-tape was welcomed by the dental industry. Slowly, steps were being made that reduced the regulatory complexity associated with manufacturing, exporting and importing dental products – this work needs to continue," said Troy Williams, ADIA Chief Executive Officer.

A priority for ADIA will be to ensure that the government continues reforms that are underpinned by the principle that if a system, service or product has been approved under a trusted international standard or risk assessment, then the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) should not impose any additional requirements for approval in Australia, unless it can be demonstrated that there is a good reason to do so.

"This commitment was important to the dental industry as, when reflected in legislation, it allows dental product suppliers accelerated pathways that will expedite the process of introducing new and innovative products into the Australian market," Mr Williams said.

Once the new Turnbull Ministry is settled, ADIA will continue its negotiations to ensure that the regulatory framework administered by the TGA supports an environment in which businesses across the dental industry can grow, create jobs and operate sustainably.

"ADIA enjoyed a strong working relationship with the two Health Ministers that served in the last Parliament, and we look forward to continued collaboration, Mr Williams said.

As in the last parliament, ADIA will also engage with the Opposition and cross-benchers to develop an understanding of the need to further reduce the amount of red-tape that manufacturers and suppliers face.

"To date, there has been broad bipartisan support to reform the TGA's complex regulatory system. We look forward to our ongoing discussions at a parliamentary level to ensure this continues to be the case," Mr Williams concluded.
