To bring the next government's attention to the economy and business conditions, the Australian Dental Industry Association (ADIA) is giving its full support to Getting On With Business, the reform blueprint for a national approach to helping business, published by the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI).
The ACCI blueprint was released at Parliament House in Canberra today, the midway point of the 2013 federal election campaign.
"Here in the lead-up to the federal election, ADIA supports Getting On With Business to bring the attention of all political parties to the plight of businesses within the dental industry. We are in a perfect storm as the demand for dental products has dropped while dental product suppliers are struggling underneath more red tape and taxes on business than ever before," said Troy Williams, ADIA Chief Executive Officer.
The blueprint focuses on five main priority areas: A Stronger Economy; Raising Productivity and Competitiveness; Accessing Global Markets; Better Functioning Institutions and Supporting Small Business. Within those priority areas, Getting On With Business sets out some practical and specific recommendations for government to act on and help small business get back on track including: conducting a root-and-branch review of government expenditure; nominating a timetable for a reduction in the company tax rate; reversing the more onerous elements of the new legislative changes for 457 visas; and reducing the additional cost and regulatory imposts of the superannuation system on Australian business.
"It is not constructive to merely state that the dental industry, and the business community generally, is facing difficulties. This is what sets Getting On With Business apart. It not only articulates the challenges faced by the dental industry, but also the corresponding practical solutions that are easily achievable by government," adds Mr Williams.
"The dental industry backs Getting On With Business along with ACCI's Small Business - Too Big To Ignore campaign, as these initiatives by ACCI augments the work of ADIA in supporting the growth and sustainability of member businesses and complements the ADIA Advocacy Agenda.
"We support Getting On With Business in both the literal and figurative sense as building business confidence and capacity should be the central tenet of the next Australian Government in creating jobs and prosperity for all Australians," said Mr Williams.
