ADC Melbourne a success

The Australian Dental Congress in Melbourne was another resounding success, with a combination of educational programs and a well-supported trade exhibition. Dentists from all over Australia took time out of their schedules to take in the plenary sessions and also catch up on all that is current and new in the world of dental equipment, supplies and services.

This year's ADC Exhibition had some well-received new products from one of the world's leading equipment companies, A-dec, and its European partners, W&H and Acteon.

Centrepiece of the large A-dec display was the wide range of dental units with choice of flexible delivery systems and colours - incorporating options for intraoral cameras, caries detectors and electric motors and A-dec's award winning LED operatory light.

With the end of the financial year looming, interest in dental equipment was no doubt heightened by the Federal Government investment allowance, which enables immediate tax deductibility of equipment purchases up to $20,000.

New sterilizer debuts at ADC

Debuting at this year's exhibition was the latest W&H Lisa sterilizer which offers fast, secure and traceable sterilisation cycles - including wireless monitoring from anywhere in the dental practice.

The new Lisa sterilizer has been designed for optimum speed, durability and ease of use, with an intuitive and customisable colour touchpad that simplifies program selection and staff training requirements. Cycle data is captured on a high capacity built in data logger and cycle parameters and cycle progress can be monitored remotely using the free Lisa wireless app.

The new Lisa is the ideal benchtop sterilizer for any dental practice with a small footprint; automatic load sensing; and a rapid B-type cycle time of just 30 minutes for a 2kg mixed hollow and wrapped load, including drying time.

This allows effective sterilization of all load types with a reduced drying time depending on load size and type. This results in rapid instrument reprocessing, minimum energy consumption and also prolongs the life of instruments.

Breakthrough 3D imaging system

Another drawcard at this year's exhibition was the advanced Acteon X-Mind Trium OPG unit with full 3D and cephalometric capability in the smallest footprint of any ceph machine on the market.

The X-Mind Trium draws on advancements in volumetric tomography in medical imaging to bring a new level of detail thanks to its very low 75 micron voxel size and low radiation dosage which adjusts for bone density for improved safety and consistent image quality.

X-Mind Trium is an affordable and flexible option for both general dentistry and dental and other medical specialists and can be expanded from its base OPG panoramic configuration to include CBCT 3D and full cephalometric capability at a later time.

Different fields of view from 40 mm x 40 mm to full skull cephalometric (110 mm x 80mm) cater for specialists' individual needs, while limiting radiation to the required dosage.

The X-Mind Trium is the only unit that can perform a full 360-degree rotation in just 18 to 27 seconds depending on the selected field of view. 3D reconstruction takes less than 30 seconds, setting a new benchmark.

The new X-mind Trium is iPad compatible for convenient viewing of images remotely and for informing patients about tooth and bone morphology and recommended treatment plans. An iPad app is soon to become available to facilitate convenient access to images.
