3M ESPE has added two new strings to the bows of its four CAD/CAM milling centres in Australia with the launch of new Lava Plus High Translucency Zirconia and the availability of Lava Ultimate resin nano ceramic in blocks designed for Lava mills. Both materials are now available to authorized Lava Milling and Design Center Laboratories.
New Lava Plus High Translucency Zirconia
Lava Plus High Translucency Zirconia is a new zirconia CAD/CAM system especially designed to deliver the aesthetics of a layered restoration from all-zirconia that allows dentists to create true restorative masterpieces. Compared to other shaded zirconia materials, the unique formula of the Lava Plus zirconia system provides significantly higher translucency and beauty, without compromising strength. Created with special chemistry and processing, Lava Plus all-zirconia material provides strength and resists chipping, and with its patented shading technology, the Lava Plus zirconia system enables highly aesthetic all-zirconia or traditional layered restorations.
With the aesthetic improvements offered by the Lava Plus zirconia system, one-piece all-zirconia restorations are becoming an attractive and affordable alternative to PFM or full cast metal restorations.
The outstanding aesthetics of the zirconia block allows natural, warm colours to shine from the inside of dental crowns and dental bridges. With the patented shading system of Lava Plus zirconia, dentists can offer patients endless options for custom shading and unparalleled individualization - which helps to maintain the translucency of the restoration. With 18 colours and eight Lava Plus Effect Shades, this zirconia block system gives dentists options for unparalleled individualization. Customization of the zirconia block is also made more predictable, as Lava Plus is the only CAD/CAM zirconia system that matches the VITA Classical A1-D4 shades, including the bleached shades. It is also the only available zirconia block system that features direct conversion to the most common VITA System 3D-Master Shades.
In addition to outstanding aesthetics, the Lava Plus zirconia system maintains the strength for which zirconia is prized. Without a porcelain overlay, one-piece restorations made with the all-zirconia block are very strong and are not exposed to chipping. Scientific data also proves that Lava all-zirconia has antagonist preserving wear properties and is not abraded or roughened under occlusal load.
The Lava Plus zirconia block system's ease of use extends from its preparation requirements, to adjustments, to cementation. The Lava Plus zirconia system makes it easy to respect important tooth-preserving preparation guidelines, as the zirconia block can be milled with as little as 0.3 mm minimum wall thickness for anterior single unit restorations and 0.5mm minimum wall thickness for posterior restorations. This zirconia block material requires three times less occlusal preparation than lithium disilicate glass ceramic because of its three times greater strength.1 Furthermore, adjustments are made easy. If minor intra-oral adjustments to the zirconia block are necessary, dentists can use a fine diamond bur with water-cooling and continue with a standard rubber polisher set for ceramic materials. For the mandatory high-shine polishing finish, a diamond polishing paste and a suitable polishing brush are all that is necessary.
Finally, cementation is also simplified for the Lava Plus zirconia block. Due to their outstanding strength, Lava Plus zirconia restorations can be cemented using either an adhesive resin dental cement, such as RelyX Ultimate Adhesive Resin Cement (which is ideally suited for CAD/CAM or glass ceramic restorations) or a self-adhesive resin dental cement like RelyX Unicem 2 Self-Adhesive Resin Cement. With unprecedented aesthetics, high strength and ease of use, the Lava Plus zirconia system is redefining the possibilities of delivering the beauty of a layered restoration in all-zirconia.
Lava Ultimate restorative resin nano ceramic
Previously only available for the CEREC and E4D chairside CAD/CAM systems, 3M ESPE is now bringing its unique new Lava Ultimate restorative to labs by making it available to all dental professionals through their preferred Authorized Lava Milling and Design Centers.
Lava Ultimate restorative resin nano ceramic CAD/CAM material was originally introduced to users of chairside CEREC and E4D CAD/CAM systems in March 2012 and as those dentists have already experienced, Lava Ultimate restorative provides a polish that lasts, along with functionality other CAD/CAM materials can't match. In fact, 3M ESPE is backing Lava Ultimate restorative with its industry-leading 10-year warranty.
"Dentists with chairside CAD/CAM systems have responded enthusiastically to the unique properties of this new resin nano ceramic CAD/CAM material," said Mark Gates, vice president of sales and marketing, 3M ESPE. "We are happy to now offer Lava Ultimate restorative to an even greater number of dentists through their labs."
Lava Ultimate restorative is part of a new class of CAD/CAM material based on 3M ESPE's renowned nanotechnology. This resilient new milling material is incredibly durable and shock absorbent, not brittle. The unique properties of the CAD/CAM material enable a fast, no-firing process, and only a few minutes of polishing are needed to achieve an enamel-like lustre. The resin nano ceramic CAD/CAM material also allows dentists to easily make adjustments, as well as to build-up and reseal restorations.
Lava Ultimate restorative CAD/CAM material builds upon two of 3M's core technology platforms: ceramics and nanotechnology. 3M has developed a proprietary process for creating the CAD/CAM material, which is formulated from a blend of approximately 80 percent nanoceramic particles embedded in a highly-cured resin matrix. The result is a unique, patented resin nano ceramic milling material that maintains a brilliant, long-lasting polish.
Lava Ultimate restorative is indicated for a full range of permanent adhesive, single-unit restorations, including crowns, onlays, inlays and veneers. Additionally, Lava Ultimate restorative is ideally suited for implant-supported restorations because of its high flexural strength, shock-absorbing properties and low wear. Lava Ultimate restorative reduces stress to the implant, and dentists can adjust the material for occlusion with additive and subtractive techniques. Lava Ultimate restorative is offered in eight shades, four of which include both high and low translucencies, giving labs the choices they need to create natural-looking restorations.
