The winners of a 3M ESPE promotion held late last year were given a rare treat just before Christmas with a half day sailing on the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race contender, Funnel Web.
"As part of our sponsorship of Team Funnelweb, we were fortunate enough to be able to tailor a very special promotion for our customers," said Mr Michael Fahey, Sales and Marketing Manager at 3M ESPE.
"Anyone who qualified went into the draw for one of 50 chances to fly to Sydney, stay at the Westin Hotel for two nights and enjoy a morning or afternoon's sailing. It was the first time anything like this has been done before and the winners thoroughly enjoyed the experience. We will be endeavouring to organise similar promotions in the future."
Everyone who sailed on the Hick 50 boat was expected to pull their weight and in the process, had a brief insight into what it would be like to be in a real yacht race as they tacked up and down Sydney Harbour from the heads to the Harbour Bridge.
"Sincere thanks for the opportunity of partaking in the wonderful experience of sailing on Funnel Web," said Dr Richard Costa. "The entire afternoon was a treat and one that has generated a lot of discussion since. We enjoyed following the progress of Funnel Web on its journey south during the race."
"I had a most enjoyable afternoon on Funnel Web," said Dr John Reynolds. "Not being a yachtie, it was all new to me but I can see why this gets people in."
Apart from airfares and accommodation, the winners also received a gift pack that included a Funnel Web hat and polo shirt.
Almost half the 2004 Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race entrants withdrew due to atrocious weather conditions. Funnel Web, however, completed the full race and was placed 44th in line honours. Congratulations.
